Please be advised that the Sunday in-person worship services at Fairfields United Methodist Church and Afton United Methodist Church are cancelled  until further notice. Instead, you may access a livestream worship experience at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday by going to the Afton United Methodist Church Ophelia Virginia Facebook page and clicking on “videosOR you may access the live stream video at a later time in the same manner.

New this Sunday, May 31st is an in-person parking lot service at 9:30 a.m. Fairfields UMC! People who attend will not be permitted to leave their cars. The service will be broadcast via a loud speaker and will be able to be heard with the car windows rolled down.

Church activities have been cancelled until further notice except for the Bible study at Afton UMC at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and the Bible study at Fairfields UMC at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings. Both Bible studies  continue to meet in person at the respective churches OR may be accessed via the Zoom video conferencing program. Contact the Charge office for information on how to join the Bible studies via Zoom.

Mark your contribution to the attention of the Financial Secretary, who will pick up your check, record it, and deposit it in the church operating account in a timely manner.

Church expenses continue even though churches are closed and services are being live streamed on Facebook. Church maintenance, utility bills, Charge expenses, and payments to the Virginia Conference still have to be paid. If everyone contributes as planned, we will not deplete our operating fund and will not have to dip into our reserves. Thank you for your support. Prayer and faith will get us through this trying time.

Please note: While Margaret remains at work at the Northumberland Charge office during normal office hours (T-Th 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), the office is closed to visitors. Please email the office (nchargeumc@va.metrocast.net) or call (804-453-3770) to give or receive information.

Sunday Worship: Due to “Social Distancing” requirements, services are online until further notice. Normally they are 9:30 a.m. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.

Pastor: John C. Wright. Retired engineer-now-pastor; excited, eager, common sense guy

Music: Barbara Hays. Well-trained; enthusiastic; energetic; caring

Choir Rehearsal: Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. sanctuary; new voices welcome!

Bible Study: Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. in the Fairfields social hall

Nelia Tingle: Monthly fellowship on 2nd Thursdays, 6:00 p.m. in the Fairfields social hall, except during the months of June-September

UMM: Men’s group; monthly breakfast meetings on the last Saturday of every month. Rotates meetings between Fairfields UMC and Afton UMC (located at 5130 Hacks Neck Road in Ophelia).
